The 2025 MLB draft is well underway here on Monday, commencing with rounds four through 20 to finish off the draft. On Day One, Canadian prospects or prospects with Canadian ties through the World Baseball Classic came out to play and get paid.
A few very well spoken-of canucks heard their names called in this year’s selections. These names were no-brainers within Baseball Canada and the collegiate prep world.
RHP Tyler Bremner – 2nd overall, Los Angeles Angels
Tyler Bremner’s parents are Canadian; he is the highest Canadian-affiliated pick in the draft (and in the history of the draft), selected by the Los Angeles Angels. Bremner competed in the Big West Conference of the NCAA, out of the University of California, Santa Barbara. His three-year collegiate showcase was impressive, recording 221 and 1 / 3 innings with an overall 3.58 ERA, 295 strikeouts, and 57 walks.
Bremner was ranked 18th among MLB’s top prospects. He works a three-pitch mix with a 65-grade scaled live fastball that maxes at 98 mph with bite, followed by a very workable slider, and a hard-dipping changeup, which is his put-away option.
Bremner landed in a sweet spot with his second overall selection. His spot is valued at $10.25 million, but likely will sign an underslot bonus.
OF Slater de Brun – 37th overall, Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles took advantage of their selection in Competitive Balance-A and drafted Vanderbilt commit Slater de Brun. De Brun has strong Canadian ties through his mother’s Canadian roots and Canadian education.
Playing at Summit High School in Oregon, de Brun ranked as the 24th prospect heading into the draft. The outfielder is extremely athletic with the ability to hit the ball-to-bat, and move around the base-pads.
The @Orioles drafted Slater de Brun with the No. 37 overall pick.
But they also are getting Lil Slayyy.

OF Charles Davalan – 41st overall, Los Angeles Dodgers
The defending World Series Champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, selected the first Canadian-born player of this year’s draft. Playing for Arkansas, Charles Davalan was one of the top-ranked Canucks heading into the draft.
The left-handed hitter is originally from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, spending time in Montreal, Quebec, and moved to Florida for his senior high school year. This move was to compete with TNXL Academy to try and boost his draft stock.
Davalan finished with a strong offensive showing at Arkansas, numerically and physically. He slashed a .346/.433/.561 with 93 hits, 14 home runs, and 60 RBIs. His projection involves power, 15-plus home runs, 70-plus RBIs, and consistently in his slash numbers.
RHP Cam Leiter – 65th overall, Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers loved what they saw in Cam Leiter, a right-handed pitcher from Florida State University. Leiter was born in Florida and grew up in Bayville, New Jersey, but his mother hails from British Columbia and he holds dual citizenship, having lived in Canada for almost 10 years. He is also the nephew of former big leaguers Al Leiter and Mark Leiter, while his cousins Jack and Mark Leiter Jr. are currently suiting up on the biggest stage.
He finished 2024 with a 5-1 record and 4.63 ERA in 35 innings pitched. Standing 6-00t-5, the right-hander pumps up to 98 mph, averaging 95-96 mph on his fastball. He’s projected to be in the triple digits; this pitch profile is hard to pass up strictly on the lack of statistics.
Leiter did not pitch in 2025 due to injury.
RHP Will Hynes – 70th overall, Cleveland Guardians
Will Hynes hails from Lorne Park, Ontario, and plays for the notorious Ontario Blue Jays program, based in the Greater Toronto Area. Hynes is an elite arm in his league of play and with the Junior National Team.
This was quickly recognized by Wake Forest University, where he committed to attend this fall. The right-hander has a three-pitch mix, led by a fastball ranging 94-95 mph.
He’s a strike thrower with effective off-speed, and has some proven pitch options against professional bats. Hynes ranked 163rd of 250 top draft prospects heading into the draft.
