The Toronto Blue Jays swept the Seattle Mariners this weekend, and one player who made an impact in the series was Addison Barger. Barger has been heating up at the plate and recorded his first home run of the season in the Blue Jays’ 9-1 victory on Sunday.
Barger also recorded five hits in the series, and all of them had 107+ mph exit velocity. He is both hitting the ball hard and providing the Blue Jays with timely hits. Barger recorded three doubles in the Blue Jays 6-3 victory on Saturday.

Addison Barger’s Making Impact at the Plate for Blue Jays
In his last seven games, Barger has been a hitting machine. He’s recorded a .381 batting average with six RBI, three walks, a .458 OBP, and slugging .667. In addition, he’s recorded seven extra-base hits this season. He has provided the Blue Jays with sensational hard-hitting contact, becoming a valuable asset to the team. His average exit velocity (96.6) has also been impressive this season. Compare that to Shohei Ohtani who is just ahead of him at a 97.2 average exit velocity.

Since second baseman Andrés Giménez was placed on the 10-day injured list, Ernie Clement has had to shift to second. Barger has been playing third base, and since moving there he’s illustrated an enhancement with his offense. He has shown that he’s better equipped to play third base compared to the outfield. With Barger’s strong arm, he’s capable of making accurate throws to first base. While he did make some spectacular outfield assists against the Mariners this season, having him at third could pan out better. The great thing about Barger is his versatility, so moving him around where needed is also helpful. Since May 3rd Barger’s offense hasn’t been overlooked. He has recorded a .353 batting average, a .421 OBP, a .529 SLG, a.950 OPS, and five RBI with three extra-base hits in that time.
Barger’s Bat Should Remain Significant
Barger’s offensive impact has been questioned at times, but at the end of the day, you don’t give up on players who have demonstrated the skillset that Barger has put out. Patience is a virtue in baseball, as it takes time to mobilize and make adjustments. So far, Barger has earned all the playing time he has been given. With the way he’s been playing, he will be a key player to look out for in their upcoming series. Toronto starts an important three-game series against the division rival Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
It’s also been refreshing for a position player not named Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to gain recognition and attention. The Blue Jays possess a plentiful amount of young talent. Barger, who is 25 years old, could establish new career highs offensively this season if he continues to put up productive at-bats. With the way he’s been hitting, the Blue Jays need to continue to utilize his bat effectively. Barger batted third in the lineup on Sunday, moving up from the sixth spot on Saturday. The Blue Jays remain three games behind the first-place New York Yankees, and currently sit two games ahead of the Rays. If the Blue Jays can win the series against the Rays, it should help them move up in the standings.
