With Daulton Varsho landing on the 10-day injured list, the Blue Jays have made roster changes that involve calling up Davis Schneider. In addition, Erik Swanson will make his debut and return from the IL. Toronto also optioned Easton Lucas back to the minors. Lucas was called up temporarily following the Blue Jays designating José Ureña for assignment, and he pitched effectively out of the pen to earn a win in Saturday’s victory against the Athletics.
A utility player, Schneider was optioned to the minors on April 17th, as his numbers in the big leagues weren’t sufficient to keep him at the big league level. But he has improved numbers at Triple-A since then (four home runs, 18 RBI, three stolen bases, and .741 OPS) and is looking to provide the Blue Jays with a power boost.

Blue Jays Roster Changes Come to Life Amid Daulton Varsho Injury

Supplemental Outfield Situation
At the start of this season, Schneider talked about how he wanted to capitalize on his power this season. The 26-year-old first made his mark with the Blue Jays in 2023 in his rookie season, having a hot start that fans won’t soon forget. He slashed .276/.404/.606 with eight home runs across 35 games. The late call-up in August of that season was highly recognized considering his age and the surge he provided. At one point, he went 9-for-13 along with smashing two home runs across three games.
He is worthy of getting a call-up with Varsho landing on the shelf with a grade-one hamstring strain. While his landing on the IL stings for Blue Jays fans, the injury isn’t severe. It also helps that the Blue Jays have plenty of outfield options. In addition, the bottom order of the lineup has been vastly productive. They have gotten major offensive contributions from Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes, Myles Straw, and Jonatan Clase. They have all worked hard to make adjustments and showcase their strengths both offensively and defensively.
