Toronto Blue Jays starting catcher Alejandro Kirk, has been dominant this season, fulfilling his potential for breakout year in 2025. Kirk’s defense is already characterized as top-notch. But his offense has drastically enhanced since last season. All in all, he is playing like the 2022 All-Star that Blue Jays fans have been yearning for. Although Cal Raleigh has been the standout catcher in the American League this season, Kirk’s offensive showing is impressive in its own right.

Alejandro Kirk’s Offense Mirroring His 2022 Dominance
Kirk has made himself stand out at the plate this season. Most recently, he had a two-homer game on Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Blue Jays have often utilized Kirk and Tyler Heineman in the lineup together this season, which has brought them success. Kirk’s batting metrics, along with his defensive metrics, have been off the charts. His fielding run value (13) ranks in the 100th percentile. Also, his hard-hit rate of 56.6% ranks in the 98th percentile. Lastly, his squared-up rate of 36.3% ranks in the 96th percentile.
Alejandro Kirk’s catching stats this year are wild:
– Blocks Above Average: 100th percentile
– Caught Stealing Above Average: 97th percentile
– Framing: 100th percentile
– Pop Time: 57th percentileGuy is a DEMON behind the dish

Defensively, Kirk’s ability to frame pitches is his strongest weapon. He ranks in the 100th percentile with seven this season. His blocks above average (11) also rank in the 100th percentile. Kirk has been a significant part of the Blue Jays’ success this season. This is following his contract extension which more or less guarantees he will be a long-term Blue Jay along with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Locking in talent is something the Blue Jays need to capitalize on, and they have several players they could provide with contract extensions, such as Bo Bichette, Daulton Varsho, and Ernie Clement. All three have showcased how they are deserving of extensions with their steady performances this season.
The Last Word on Kirk
Kirk has been productive from both sides in 2025 and has put up an impressive display of offense in the month of June, where he has batted .329 with 23 hits, four home runs, 12 RBI, and eight runs. The five-year $58 million dollar contract extension that he earned has paid off for the Blue Jays, and it will be exciting to see how Kirk will perform in the second half of the season.
The Blue Jays have needed Kirk’s bat to come alive, and his 2022 dominance has returned after his offensive output was questioned. But the fact that Kirk has been able to bounce back and is having a breakout season is huge for both him and the Blue Jays. Having Kirk as the full-time catcher benefits Toronto greatly, and his full-time role is a plus, as is getting more playing time and finding his groove at the plate.
