Friday’s game wasn’t very kind to the Toronto Blue Jays.
It saw them score no runs for the first time this season, but they squandered multiple opportunities to make it a close game. The most notable was in the sixth inning, as they had runners on first and second with one out. However, Andrés Giménez and Alejandro Kirk struck out, and the Mets put a three-spot up in the bottom half of that inning.
The good news is that Saturday is a new day for the team. Chris Bassitt gets the ball for the Jays, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run in his last start. In his past two starts against his former team, Bassitt has pitched 13.2 innings, with nine hits allowed, one earned run, one walk, and 16 strikeouts. Hopefully, he can find the same success on Saturday.
One area of concern for the Blue Jays is the top of their lineup. Bo Bichette has been the best of the three, slashing .273/.383/.333 with two doubles, but he hasn’t found the production he had in the Baltimore Orioles series. Bichette, along with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Anthony Santander, haven’t hit a home run.
Myles Straw is back in the lineup this evening. After going hitless in his first start on Mar. 30, Straw had a 3-4 day on Apr. 2 with two doubles. Getting any production out of their fifth outfielder would be huge.
Let’s set up the starters and the lineups for Saturday’s game.
