The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to add another sweep to their record, with the club heading into today’s contest up two games on the San Francisco Giants. Chris Bassitt and the Jays shut out the Giants on Friday by a score of 4-0, and yesterday, the Jays’ bats combined for six runs to best San Fran 6-3.
With an early 12:05 PM EST start, the Blue Jays will be turning to Jose Berrios to get the job done.
Berrios owns a 3.75 ERA through 20 starts this season and owns a 1.240 WHIP and a 4.30 FIP. The veteran right-hander has been through it all this season, posting some solid starts where he gives the Jays some length and then some outings where he can’t keep the ball from leaving the yard. Through July, he has allowed 11 earned runs through 13 1/3 innings, six of which came back on July 2nd against the New York Yankees, where he was cruising along before the Bronx Bombers put up a strong half inning.

For his career, Berrios has made just one start against San Francisco, limiting the Bay Area squad to two earned runs and six hits through 5 1/3 innings.
Opposite Berrios this afternoon will be former Blue Jays and 2021 AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray, who makes his 21st start of the season. Signing with the Seattle Mariners following the 2021 campaign, Ray landed in San Francisco during the 2023/2024 offseason and made just seven starts last season while still recovering from Tommy John surgery.
This season, Ray is back to his old ways, posting a 2.65 ERA and a 3.49 FIP through 119 innings of work. The southpaw owns a 9.7 K/9 and a 1.084 WHIP through his 20 starts and has limited opponents to a 6.4 H/9. He sits in the 95th percentile with his +15 pitching run value, which is led by his 4-seam fastball (+9) and his slider (+6). Working with a four-pitch mix, with his changeup and knuckle-curve rounding out the arsenal, Ray relies heavily on the fastball (51.1%).
The Jays have made some changes to the lineup with a left-hander on the mound. Ernie Clement suits up at third base and will bat leadoff while Addison Barger and Davis Schneider get the start in right and left field, respectively. Leo Jimenez gets the nod at second base while Myles Straw gets the start in centre field. Alejandro Kirk will catch Berrios.
