Blue Jays Minor League Report: Arjun Nimmala hit his organization-leading ninth home run

May 24, 2025 by Blue Jays Nation

Arjun Nimmala looks like a legitimate top prospect for the Toronto Blue Jays.

This is the May 20-22 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at the past three games for each of the Blue Jays’ affiliates. We’ll look at the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, and FCL Jays in this article. You can read the latest Blue Jays’ Minor League Report here.

Let’s take a look at the week that was!

Bisons lost the first two against Lehigh Valley

Thanks to a rainout on Thursday, the Buffalo Bisons played just two games so far this week. Tuesday’s game was a 6-5 loss, with Alan Roden and Josh Rivera hitting home runs. Roden also hit a double, as did Rainer Nunez. CJ Van Eyk made his Triple-A debut, going five innings with three earned runs, three walks, and three strikeouts. Trenton Wallace pitched in relief, pitching two scoreless innings with two walks and a strikeout. Josh Bruihl was tagged with a loss, giving up two earned runs in an inning of work.

The Bisons followed that up with an 8-5 loss on Wednesday. There were no home runs hit by the Bisons, but Nunez hit a double, and Ryan McCarty hit his first Triple-A triple. Davis Schneider and Roden had two-hit games. Lazaro Estrada made the start, pitching four innings with two earned runs. Jimmy Burnette was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs, only one was earned. Dillon Tate, Ryan Jennings, and Andrew Bash pitched scoreless innings, while Josh Walker gave up two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Fisher Cats have lost six of their last eight

Like the Bisons, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats only played two games thanks to a postponement on Thursday. Also like the Bisons, they dropped their first two games, losing 5-0 on Tuesday. Yohendrick Pinango, Dasan Brown, and RJ Schreck hit singles, while Cade Doughty struck out four times and Jay Harry struck out three times. Rafael Sanchez made the start, giving up four earned runs in four innings of work. Alex Amalfi struck out five in two and two-thirds innings pitched. Bobby Milacki struck out three in two and one-third innings pitched.

Wednesday’s game was a 4-1 loss for the Fisher Cats. Doughty hit the lone extra-base hit, his fourth double of the season. He, Schreck, Peyton Williams, and Brown had two-hit games. Grant Rogers made his Double-A debut, giving up three runs (two earned) in five innings pitched with five strikeouts. Hunter Gregory pitched another scoreless inning, Johnathan Lavallee pitched two innings with one earned run allowed, and Justin Kelly struck out two in his inning pitched.

Canadians are on a seven-game losing streak

The Vancouver Canadians are now on a franchise-record seven-game losing streak. Tuesday saw them fall 6-4 to the Eugene Emeralds. Arjun Nimmala had a terrific game, going 3-3 with a walk while hitting his eighth home run of the season and a double. Aaron Parker had the other two hits in the game. Trey Yesavage made the start, striking out 10 and allowing two earned runs in four innings pitched. Gage Stanifer didn’t have a great outing, giving up four runs (three earned) in three and two-thirds innings pitched. Chay Yeager got the final out.

It looked as if the Canadians were going to end their losing streak on Thursday, as they had a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth. They fell 6-5. Nimmala had another great game, going 3-5 with his ninth home run of the season, as well as his 12th double of the season. Gabriel Martinez had a two-hit game, while Cutter Coffey and Nick Goodwin hit singles.

FCL Jays split two games with FCL Phillies
