Blue Jays Prospect Trey Yesavage Poised for Early Promotion

April 26, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

Blue Jays prospect Trey Yesavage (shown on draft board) is making a case for promotion with two great starts at Single-A Dunedin

Ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays’ system (84th overall in MLB) by MLB Pipeline, Trey Yesavage has been lights-out dominant. He has a 2.84 ERA with 18 strikeouts across 12 2/3 innings pitched at Single-A Dunedin. In his last start, he recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts. Across his first four pro starts, he’s sporting a 3.12 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings pitched.

For a second straight start, Yesavage put on quite a performance through his first four innings, and he equaled his double-digit strikeout total from his last outing. The Blue Jays 2024 first-rounder and top pitching prospect is making a strong impression, and potentially making a case to move up in the farm system. It shouldn’t be long until Yesavage and Khal Stephen, Blue Jays’ first and second-round picks from last summer’s draft are off to High-A Vancouver.

Back-to-back 10-K games for Single-A Dunedin’s Trey Yesavage. He has 20 (!) over his past 9.2 innings.

21-Year-Old Trey Yesavage Impressing as Blue Jays’ No. 2 Prospect

Looking for a Promotion

Yesavage, who is 21 years old, had his second straight great outing with Single-A Dunedin on Friday. He went 4 2/3 innings, surrendering only two earned runs, one hit, and getting 10 more punchouts. He’s demonstrating how he’s ready for a promotion. Yesavage is projected to make his MLB debut in 2026. This works great, as veteran starters Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt will both be free agents after this season.

Yesavage is considered a promising prospect due to his solid fastball and good command of his pitches. He is already ranked second in the Blue Jays system behind shortstop Arjun Nimmala. He has led scouts to predict rapid development. Yesavage pitches with a high level of competitive drive, but he possesses the willingness to improve. So far in 2025, he is demonstrating why he’s a valuable asset to the Blue Jays.

Upsides to Trey Yesavage’s Game

Yesavage’s fastball is his main asset, topping out at 95 mph and containing a high release point. This provides him with a unique advantage making it hard for batters to track the ball. He has demonstrated a good command of his pitches, as evidenced by his low walk rate and low batting average against. Yesavage’s strong physical presence (6’4″ and 225 lbs), and his competitiveness, make him a threat on the mound.
His solid performance in college, with a 2.58 ERA and 295 strikeouts across 195 1/3 innings for East Carolina, exemplifies his capability to perform in high-leverage situations. Scouts also believe that Yesavage has quick riser potential. He could move up fast through the minors with the potential to be an established starter in the big leagues within a few years.
At the end of the day, it’s not just about performance, but Yesavage doesn’t have a whole lot left to prove in the Florida State League. He revived a curve ball that he hadn’t thrown in several seasons in his last start. If he sharpens that pitch, he might be moving up sooner rather than later.
