Blue Jays Rotation Showcasing Stabilization

July 1, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

The Blue Jays’ starting rotation has stabilized since the start of the season, with adjustments from certain pitchers. José Berríos started the season on a rough patch, where he struggled to avoid giving up home runs. Gausman has also been inconsistent this season, alternating between hot and cold performances. However, in his last start, he was dominant, going eight innings and recording six strikeouts with only two hits. The Blue Jays also have their veteran three-time Cy Young winner back in the rotation. This should help to solidify the rotation if he sticks to pitching five innings. The Blue Jays have had to rely on spot starters in his absence.

Eric Lauer’s pitching odyssey has taken him to Korea and back.

Now, he’s been welcomed as timely contributor in the Blue Jays’ starting rotation amid a pivotal stretch. (@ArdenZwelling) https://t.co/xdlt8ybwq5

Blue Jays’ Rotation Has Regained Dominance

Blue Jays Rotation Revampment

Luckily, one of them has earned a spot in the rotation with Bowden Francis landing on the IL due to his struggles this season. Eric Lauer has been an underrated weapon in the rotation. Oddly enough, Lauer was supposed to return to Korea, where he pitched last season, but since his performance has been top-notch, the Blue Jays need his shutdown dominance. Lauer 4-1 with a 2.60 ERA with 45 strikeouts this season, which illustrates his ace-like quality.

Aside from Lauer, Chris Bassitt has been the ace in the rotation so far this season with a 7-4 record and a 4.29 ERA. His lasting outing against the Boston Red Sox was not reflective of his dominance. But Bassitt has put out solid performances this season. Bassitt has been a dominant force this season, and his success can be attributed to several key factors. This includes his pitch selection, boosted control and command, and the proficiency of limiting offense and inducing weak contact.

His confidence this season has been a pleasure to watch, particularly with his aggressive approach, which has allowed him to pitch deeper into games. His workhorse mentality is a charitable component of what he brings to the rotation. Overall, the Blue Jays’ rotation has been solid. The Blue Jays’ starting rotation has stabilized since the start of the season, with improvements from José Berríos, who leads the team in ERA at 3.26, down from 3.57 in May. The main attribute that has come alive for the Blue Jays’ rotation is confidence. With the return of Alek Manoah, we will need to see if his confidence has returned, as it has been something he has lacked since his dominant 2022 form. Having him return could be beneficial if he’s able to return to his roots.
