The Toronto Blue Jays have placed Tyler Heineman on the seven-day injury list and have called up catcher Ali Sanchez. He will be active for today’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays have designated Josh Walker for assignment. Heineman has been placed on the shelf with a concussion retroactive to May 23rd.
According to MLB Pipeline, Sanchez was a 15th-ranked prospect with the New York Mets in 2016. In addition, Sanchez is a versatile player who can also play right field. This season with Triple-A Buffalo, he has hit .253 with two doubles and 15 RBI and a .324 OBP. Sanchez has gained recognition as a top-notch defensive catcher since he excels as a receiver who is known for possessing solid framing by stealing strikes. His presence on the Blue Jays MLB roster will enhance their catcher depth.

Former Mets Top Prospect Activated to Blue Jays MLB Roster Amid Injury
Why Sanchez Is Solid Behind the Plate
This permits him to make dynamite plays on balls that land in the dirt/near the plate. He has quick reactive skills, where he can make good and fast transfers. He can anticipate plays well when it comes to throwing the ball to second base to nab base stealers. This is a strong asset that full-time catcher Alejandro Kirk has already demonstrated this season. Lastly, he also encompasses solid management and valuable intangibles. He has generated positive feedback from coaches as well as pitchers. Making him a solid option for the Blue Jays to have in their system. Overall, seeing him in action while Heinemann recovers from his concussion will be compelling. This is a great opportunity for the 28-year-old to make a good impression for the Blue Jays at the big-league level.
