The Toronto Blue Jays have given rookie Easton Lucas another shot and have designated José Ureña for assignment. The Blue Jays announced that they have recalled Easton Lucas. Lucas was called up at the beginning of the season and put up two back-t0-back starts where he didn’t give up any runs.Lucas will likely be sent back down on Sunday and be used to cover some innings against the Athletics on Saturday. Veteran Erik Swanson is slated to return, making his 2025 debut with the Blue Jays. Lucas has shown that he has the tools to pitch effectively.

Blue Jays Have Recalled Easton Lucas
Following his two impressive starts, the 28-year-old fell off and was then optioned back down to Triple-A Buffalo. Lucas was deserving of his third start. Despite his struggles, had the team needed him, he could have continued as a starter. Essentially, giving him the chance to pitch against a struggling Athletics lineup is a great way to boost his confidence.
The Blue Jays lack depth with their starting rotation, with Jake Bloss having to undergo season-ending elbow surgery. Bloss was the Blue Jays’ viable backup option in the rotation this season. But alas, Lucas will get the nod. But if he can get back on track and pitch well, he will be an exciting pitcher to watch.
His Dominant Ability & The Last Word

Lucas was impressive this season when he held the high-power offense of the Boston Red Sox to zero runs. Across 5.1 innings in that start, he struck out eight, including the likes of Jarren Duran and Rafael Devers. In his last start in the big leagues, he was only able to pitch 1.2 innings against the Seattle Mariners and picked up the loss. That was enough for the Blue Jays to send him down until they needed him back on the big league roster. It’s possible Lucas can bounce back from his struggles and make an impact on this version of the Blue Jays as the season wears on.
Overall, getting the opportunity to demonstrate his solid command and control is something to watch. Despite recording a 5.88 ERA in the minors this season, Lucas recorded 24 strikeouts with 12 walks in 26 innings. But now he’s getting his chance to redeem himself, even if it’s on a very temporary basis.
