The Toronto Blue Jays’ top prospect is set to make his big league debut.
On Saturday evening, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reported that the Blue Jays were calling up Trey Yesavage. The following day, it was announced that the 21-year-old right-handed pitcher would start Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

While the corresponding moves to add Yesavage to the 28-man roster and the 40-man roster haven’t been made yet, expect them to be made at some point on Monday. There are numerous pathways the Jays could take, but the most logical move would be to designate Ryan Borucki for assignment, as that would open a spot on both rosters.
With all that being said, there’s a ton to be excited about regarding Yesavage. Selected 20th overall in the 2024 draft, Yesavage didn’t make his professional debut until April of this year, beginning in Single-A. He made seven starts with the Dunedin Blue Jays, authoring a 2.43 ERA and 2.23 FIP in 33.1 innings pitched. In High-A, Yesavage made just four starts, finishing his tenure in Canada with a 1.56 ERA and 3.04 FIP in 17.1 innings pitched.
Seven of his eight appearances in Double-A came as a starter, where he had a 4.50 ERA and 2.62 FIP in 30 innings pitched. The final test in the minor leagues for Yesavage was Triple-A, where he had a 3.63 ERA and 2.41 FIP in 17.1 innings pitched, throwing three perfect innings in his final start.
For the entirety of the season, Yesavage had a 3.12 ERA and 2.53 FIP in 98 innings pitched. More impressive is his 41.1 K%, which doesn’t just rank as the best strikeout rate in the Blue Jays’ system, but the best K% in all of the minor leagues for any pitcher with 50 or more innings pitched.
There are some negatives, though. In his first start at each level, Yesavage has a 3.38 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched, with a 35 K% and 28.3 BB%. As a whole, his BB% stands at 10.5%, while it’s increased to 12.6% in High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A.
It’ll be interesting to see how Yesavage does in his big league debut on Monday against the Rays.
