Diamondbacks 9 Jays 5
A sweep would have been nice, but a series win will do.
Kevin Gausman had a rough day. 4.1 innings, 7 hits, 7 earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. The Jays were hopeful he would go deep into the game, and he did go deeper than he should have. He finished with 81 pitches. It just wasn’t his day.
Paxton Schultz gave up a couple more runs in his 2.2 innings. Justin Bruihl gave us 1.2 good innings, Braydon Fisher got the last out for us.
On offense, we only had 6 hits, but scored 5 runs. Alejandro Kirk, who came into the game with a four-game hitless streak, went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 3 RBI, and 2 home runs. He tried to get us back in the game.
Jonatan Clase also hit a home run.
But Bo, Springer, Gimenez, Clement and Robertson all had -0 fors.
After six innings, the Jays were down 9-1. The Jays led 4-0 in the last three innings, but it wasn’t enough.
Jay of the Day: Kirk (.112 WPA).
Other Award: Gausman (-.372).
Tomorrow the Jays start a series with the White Sox in Toronto. Davis Martin (2-7, 3.79) starts for the White Sox. Spencer Turnbull will either start or be the bulk man for the JAys.
