A former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher has found a new home.
On Thursday afternoon, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the Milwaukee Brewers have signed Jacob Waguespack to a minor league deal. This came a day after he reported that the Brewers have also signed former Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire.
Add another minor league signing to the Brewers docket: RHP Jacob Waguespack has signed and will be invited to big league camp.

Originally drafted in the 37th round of the 2012 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Waguespack elected to head to school instead. After three seasons at Mississippi, Waguespack signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 6’6” right-handed pitcher spent parts of four seasons with the Phillies, never making the big leagues with them. Ahead of the 2018 trade deadline, the Phillies sent Waguespack to the Blue Jays in exchange for Aaron Loup, with Waguespack earning a look with the Jays the following season.
Over 16 outings in the big leagues in 2019, Waguespack made 13 starts and posted a 4.38 ERA and 4.91 FIP in 78 innings pitched. Unfortunately, the right-handed pitcher struggled the following season in his 11 appearances, being DFA’ed. That was his last action in the big leagues with the Jays.
Waguespack remained in the Jays organization for the 2021 season, authoring a 2.86 ERA and 2.87 FIP in 69.1 innings pitched with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. Following the end of the 2021 season, Waguespack headed overseas to play with Japan’s Orix Buffaloes, posting a sub 3 ERA in his first season, before it jumped to 5.77 in 2023.
Still, his performance was good enough to earn him a minor league deal with the Tampa Bay Rays before the start of the 2024 season. He returned to the big leagues that year, pitching 10 innings over four outings, but mainly pitched with the Triple-A team or spent the year on the injured list.
All of his 2025 season was spent in the minor leagues, pitching 19.2 innings with the Rays’ Triple-A team where he had a 0.46 ERA and 2.28 FIP before being designated for assignment. Following his DFA, Waguespack returned to the Phillies organization for a second stint.
Hopefully, the former Blue Jay can find his way back to the big leagues in 2026.
