Former Blue Jays reliever Richard Lovelady is heading to a new destination this offseason.
Lovelady signed a one-year deal with the New York Mets back on October 23rd, 2025, and the Mets recently DFA’d the southpaw to make some space on the 40-man roster for Vidal Brujan. With Lovelady on the waiver wire, the Washington Nationals swooped in and claimed the veteran reliever.
The Georgia product signed a MiLB deal with the Jays heading into the 2025 season and made the big league roster, but was shortly off the team after allowing four earned runs through 1 2/3 innings. Lovelady signed with the Minnesota Twins shortly after but spent the entire time in the minor leagues before being released in mid-June.

He would sign with the Mets shortly after, and finished the campaign splitting his time between the minor leagues and big leagues, being DFA’d by the club on numerous occasions. With New York, Lovelady pitched to a 6.30 ERA across eight outings, allowing seven earned runs and ten hits across 10 innings. He struck out nine batters and walked four during his limited time in Queens.
A six-year veteran of the big leagues, Lovelady joins his seventh big league organization.
