Four prospects who could debut for the Blue Jays in 2025

June 13, 2025 by Blue Jays Nation

The Toronto Blue Jays are on a strong run as of late, winning seven of their last nine games, while improving their record to 38-30 and moving into second place in the AL East. While their organizational counterparts are not experiencing the same success, the Jays’ farm system is improving on multiple fronts in terms of prospect maturation. Names like Arjun Nimmala, Trey Yesavage, Gage Stanifer, and Khal Stephen (amongst others) are gaining the attention of pundits alike, as well as those already in the big leagues, such as Addison Barger and Jonatan Clase, as of late.

The Jays have seen a handful of players make their MLB debuts this season – RHP Braydon Fisher, LHP Mason Fluharty, OF Alan Roden, and RHP Paxton Schultz – and one more currently on the roster in OF Will Robertson, who has yet to step on the field in a game setting just yet.

With this in mind, and with some names climbing up the farm system, who is next in line for a promotion to the big leagues in the Blue Jays organization?

*Will Robertson is excluded for this scenario – only those in the farm system and not on the active roster were considered*

INF – Riley Tirotta

A product of the 2021 MLB Draft, infielder Riley Tirotta can kind of do it all. He hits for contact, has found a bit of pop this season, and can play multiple infield positions.

The right-handed bat earned a promotion to Buffalo last season, and this year, Tirotta is finding a groove that is turning some heads. Through 45 games, he owns a .278/.350/.494 slash line with a .844 OPS and already has eight home runs under his belt – just seven away from his season high total he set last season, split between three levels. Only Robertson has a higher OPS compared to the same number of games played, and Tirotta continues to find ways to put the ball in play with his .381 BABIP.

He’s spent most of this season at third base, but he can also take reps at first, the corner outfield spots, and at second. Tirotta’s fielding numbers this season are a bit rough, but if he makes the trek to Toronto, it’s likely because the bat is playing well and a member of the infield is down for the foreseeable future. Whether he can earn the spot given that he’s not on the 40-man roster while Orelvis Martinez, Will Wagner, and Leo Jimenez are is still to be determined, but if he continues to hit well, the bat might be too tough to ignore.

RHP – Andrew Bash

The Jays have seen a lot of success from triple-A arms this season (Fluharty, Schultz, Fisher), and Andrew Bash is another arm entering the territory.

Signed as a MiLB free-agent in 2021, Bash has worked his way to Buffalo dating back to 2023, but has struggled to make that next jump. Injuries haven’t helped his cause, and right now, he’s healthy and pitching well. The 28-year-old has flipped between the rotation and bullpen for most of his minor league career, and this season is no different, as the right-hander has made five starts as an opener across 18 outings. He owns a 2.06 ERA and a 1.246 WHIP across 39 1/3 innings and has allowed just nine earned runs all season. He won’t strike out opponents at a high rate, but he’s been a groundball machine this season to the tune of a 43.2% rate.

Bash will have to contend with not being on the 40-man roster as well, but should another arm or two go down in the big leagues, he’s one name to throw in alongside Schultz for consideration. While he’s technically outside of the ‘prospect’ territory given his age, the stats speak for themself in triple-A.

LHP – Adam Macko

Injuries have been a bummer for Adam Macko, and a knee injury to begin the 2025 campaign was a harsh blow to take for both the player and the Jays. Toronto needed a starter in a bad way out of the gate with the Scherzer injury, and Macko would have been a potential name in the mix had he been healthy.

After five outings in the FCL, Macko is now back in triple-A with the Bisons and is starting on the right foot. He faced Syracuse last week and went four innings without allowing a hit or a run through 62 pitches while striking out four. He was a bit wild at times, walking four batters, but he contained the threats and was able to escape the start without a crooked number on the board.

Adam Macko struck out four and walked three over four hitless innings in his first start at triple-A Buffalo this season.

He threw 62 pitches after working up to a maximum of four innings over five rehab appearances in the FCL.

Macko will need some more reps to get up to speed, but as of right now, he might be one of the next arms in line if the Jays need a starter in short order and don’t want to rely on bullpen games/Eric Lauer to get them through. Max Scherzer might throw a wrinkle into Macko’s 2025 potential debut; however, nothing is set in stone with him or the rest of the Jays’ rotation, especially if Bowden Francis continues to struggle.

If Macko can put another few solid outings in his back pocket and continue to stay healthy, it wouldn’t be out of the question that he’s pitching for Toronto sometime this season. Being on the 40-man roster helps his case as well.

RHP – Trey Yesavage

If there was ever a wild card entry on this list, it’s right-hander Trey Yesavage. While many believed early this season that he would toil away in the minor leagues for the year, the first-round pick from last summer is skyrocketing his way up the minor league ladder and has found himself in double-A after just 15 starts spread between single-A and high-A.

Through 50 2/3 innings, Yesavage owns a 2.13 ERA and a 15.6 K/9 while ranking second amongst all minor league pitchers with his 88 strikeouts (and could take the lead after tonight). The move to double-A is a big test for the organization’s top pitching prospect, and it will be interesting to see if he can keep the walks in check after posting 11 free passes through four starts in high-A Vancouver.

It’s too early to say if Yesavage will factor into the Toronto Blue Jays’ plans in 2025, but if there’s a will, there’s a way. If he continues to punish opposing bats in the minor leagues and the Jays are in contention for the postseason, there’s a chance he could make the move to the big leagues to help the club down the stretch. The organization may take a conservative route with the prospect arm, considering this is his first year of pro ball, but stranger things have happened, and with the Jays in ‘win-now’ mode, it’s not out of the question of Yesavage continues to dominate.
