This is the 1⁄3 mark of the season. After today, the first third is over, and the Jays will be under .500. The question is: Will it be one game under .500 or three?
They have a tough pitcher to beat. Jacob deGrom has a 2.33 ERA in his first ten starts. Batters are hitting .199/.246/.355 against him. He’s had a terrific, if fragile, career. Ten starts is the most he’s made since 2022, and when he gets to 16, it will be his most starts since 2019. But he’s a two-time Cy Young winner.
But, Kevin Gausman is a pretty good pitcher, too.
Today’s lineup. Vlad DHes today, and surprisingly, Ernie Clement plays first. I don’t understand why we would use our best defensive infielder at first base. But then I don’t understand a lot of things.
I wanted Clase’s speed in the lineup today, but no luck. Springer sits, and Santander plays right field.
Go Jays Go.
