The Toronto Blue Jays needed some resurgence from one of their veteran outfielders, and George Springer came through against the Los Angeles Angels. Springer’s boosted offense this season came in handy against a team he has hit well in the past. He helped Toronto grab an early lead with a two-run first-inning homer, but the Blue Jays fell short in an 8-3 loss to the Angels in Tuesday’s series opener.
Springer has succeeded with the long ball this season, and he likes hitting against the Angels. He has two home runs, four RBI, and nine runs scored in his last 15 games against them. This includes his first career three-homer game. Springer has shown improved offense all season, which is a positive sign from the 35-year-old as the Blue Jays need more power from their star players.

George Springer’s Resurgence Provides Blue Jays With Much-Needed Offense
Springer is showing an offensive resurgence this season, currently batting .316 with four home runs, five stolen bases, and an impressive OPS of .960. While he does need to work on his strikeout rate (23.5%), his offense has spoken for itself, demonstrating a revamped increase in power and overall performance.
Springer mentioned during camp that fans should expect to see improved numbers despite him not having a good spring. So far he’s having a rebound season, showing that camp numbers don’t always reflect regular season numbers. Past injuries have also impacted Springer’s offense, but he’s proven if he remains healthy and focuses on consistency that he can put the bat on the ball. Springer has been playing with a ton of newfound confidence. His OBP has also been impressive at .419. Springer has been playing a key role in helping out offensively when the team is otherwise struggling, shining in an often inconsistent offensive lineup.
Springer’s Late
While Springer isn’t currently in the leadoff role, that doesn’t mean that he can’t be moved there at times. If he continues to hit how he’s been hitting and Bo Bichette struggles, manager John Schneider can easily adjust in the batting order. During his time with the Blue Jays, Springer has established positive chemistry with other players such as Daulton Varsho and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who have also been impressive early this season.
This hot early start by Springer is a mirror image of his strong finishes in the past. In the 2023 season, Springer put up solid numbers in September for the Blue Jays. That month, he posted a .265 batting average along with 30 hits, four homers, 18 RBI, and 16 runs scored across 27 games. If the Blue Jays find themselves in a situation in September where they are attempting to make a push for a Wild Card spot or division title, Springer will be an important part of that puzzle. It will be interesting to see if he can continue to provide productive at-bats as the season continues. The Blue Jays will be looking to take the second game in the LA Angels series on Wednesday.
