A trio of big-market teams have reportedly entered the Bo Bichette sweepstakes.
The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs have all checked in on the free-agent shortstop this off-season, as the New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported Thursday. The Toronto Blue Jays, of course, also have interest in bringing back the 27-year-old, who’s also garnered attention from another AL East rival — the Boston Red Sox.
Bichette has reportedly informed interested suitors that he’d be willing to move to second base next season, making him more desirable to teams that already have a full-time shortstop. The two-time All-Star shifted to the right side of the infield during last fall’s World Series following his return from a right knee injury.
If Bichette were to sign with the Yankees, Dodgers or Cubs, it’d almost certainly be as a second baseman. Heyman also noted that New York and Chicago are open to trading their current second basemen — Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Nico Hoerner (both of whom are free agents next winter) — to free up a spot at that position.
Returning to Toronto is believed to be Bichette’s top preference, considering he’s repeatedly expressed his desire to contend for a World Series title alongside his close friend Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who agreed to a 14-year, $500 million extension last spring. But the team has also been linked to other marquee free agents, including Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman and Cody Bellinger.
The Blue Jays are remaining patient after making multiple aggressive splashes in free agency earlier this off-season, signing a trio of impact pitchers — Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce and Tyler Rogers — and significantly raising the ceiling of their 2026 staff. It’ll soon be time to do the same for their position-player group.
That could include retaining Bichette or landing one of the other notable free-agent hitters. However, there’s also a chance that this franchise misses out on all four of those bats, which could force them to turn to the trade market for their offensive addition.
