It wasn’t pretty, but the Toronto Blue Jays got the win.
On Wednesday evening, the Blue Jays defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 in walk-off fashion to move to 32-29. Let’s take a look at what happened in this one!
The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, as Nick Castellanos hit his sixth home run of the season off a first-pitch sinker by Jose Berrios.
After Andres Gimenez hit his second single of the night in the bottom of the sixth, he advanced to second thanks to a wild pitch. That brought up Bo Bichette, who hit a one-out triple to drive in the Blue Jays’ first run of the game.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth and put himself in scoring position with a stolen base. After Addison Barger struck out, Alejandro Kirk just missed hitting a home run, hitting a long single that scored Guerrero Jr. for the win.

Takeaways…
The hitting did just enough for the Blue Jays to win, finishing with five hits on the night. Andres Gimenez had two of them, including scoring the game-tying run after a single. Without question, Alejandro Kirk’s single was the biggest hit of the game, while Bo Bichette hit the only extra-base hit of the game.
Addison Barger’s home run streak was snapped at four games, as he went 0-4 with three strikeouts in this game. It wasn’t his best game, but he deserves to be in the lineup every day.
Jose Berrios had another good start, going six innings with an earned run allowed and five strikeouts. Chad Green pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout, and Brendon Little struck out two in an inning and two-thirds to drop his season ERA to 1.29.
This past off-season, the Phillies and Blue Jays swapped relievers, with Jordan Romano heading to the Phillies and Jeff Hoffman returning to the Blue Jays. Hoffman got the better of the Phillies in this game, getting the final out in the ninth while Romano was tagged with the loss.
With the win, the Jays return to three games above .500. They’ll look to win their third consecutive series on Thursday, as the two teams play at 3:07 PM ET. Chris Bassitt starts for the Jays.
