Call that poetic justice.
After falling 7-1 to the Chicago White Sox on Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated them 7-1 on Saturday to move to 41-35. Let’s take a look at what happened in this game!
On the first pitch a Blue Jays’ batter saw on Saturday, Bo Bichette hit a 410-foot bomb to give them an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, the Blue Jays added another three runs as George Springer scored on an error after Ernie Clement’s single. Davis Schneider and Nathan Lukes each hit RBI singles.

The White Sox scored their only run in the top of the sixth, as Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s throw was wide of home plate, with Miguel Vargas being able to score on the fielder’s choice. Guerrero Jr. made up for it in the bottom of the seventh, hitting his 10th home run of the season to make it 5-1.

They didn’t need any more runs, but that didn’t stop Schneider from hitting a double to drive in two more runners to give the Jays a 7 -1 lead.
Takeaways…
The Blue Jays had a bullpen day on Friday, and it didn’t go well, as Spencer Turnbull pitched 2+ innings. Thankfully, Jose Berrios went deep into Saturday’s game, finishing with seven and two-thirds innings pitched without giving up an earned run to bring his season ERA to 3.51.
To get the final out of the eighth inning, Yariel Rodriguez got the batter to hit into a groundball. Chad Green pitched the ninth inning, throwing a scoreless inning with a strikeout. That will leave the bullpen in good shape heading into the series finale on Sunday.
The offence also got hot in this game. Four different players had two-hit games – Nathan Lukes, George Springer, Ernie Clement, and Davis Schneider. The latter had a three-RBI game and also reached on a walk, one of his best games of the season.
One of Clement’s hits was against a left-handed pitcher. Coming into this game, Clement was batting over .400 against lefties and had the third-highest wRC+, behind just Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt.
The top of the lineup mashed in this game as well, as Bo Bichette hit his team-leading 11th home run of the season, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 10th of the season. Lukes, who filled in for a scratched Barger, hit two singles.
With the win, the Jays moved to 41-35. They remain three games back of the American League East lead as the New York Yankees also won on Saturday.
On Sunday, the Blue Jays play the rubber match against the White Sox, with the chance to win their seventh series in their last eight. That game starts at 1:37 PM ET with Chris Bassitt on the mound.
