A’s 0 Blue Jays 12

We are back at .500 again.

The Jays had this one won early. They scored eight in the second inning, and that was plenty with how José Berríos was throwing.

In the second:

  • Alejandro Kirk started the inning off with a hard-hit line drive single. 109.5 mph.
  • Anthony Satander took a four-pitch walk.
  • Then Ernie Clement homered. 3-0.
  • After a Myles Straw groundout, Jonatan Clase singled.
  • Michael Stefanic flied out. But, Clase stole second and Bo Bichette doubled him home. 4-0.
  • Vladimir Guerrero homered, 109.7 mph, 399 feet. 6-0.
  • George Springer singled.
  • Kirk hit another hard line drive single (109.4 mph).
  • Santander walked again.
  • Clement doubled home both. 8-0.
  • Straw lined out to end the inning.

And then we got three more in the third

  • Clase walked.
  • Stefanic grounded out. Clase to second.
  • Bo homers for the second time in 24 hours. 10-0.
  • Vlad lined out. 117.5 mph. .790 expected BA.
  • Springer homers. 11-0.

We’d get one more in the seventh. Addison Barger, batting for Bo singled, Ali Sanchez, batting for Vlad, doubled and Kirk hit a sac fly.

José Berríos had a terrific start to the game, getting strikeouts on four of the first six A’s batters and seven of the first nine. He came out after six shutout innings and 90 pitches—no reason to push him with a considerable lead, after allowing just two hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.

Mason Fluharty (one inning), José Ureña (two innings) pitched in relief.

The Jays had 18 hits, including four home runs.

Clement and Kirk had three hits each. Bo, Springer, Clase, Barger had two each. Santander took two walks.

Jays of the Day: Clement (.212 WPA, 5 RBI) and Berríos (.109).

No one gets the Other Award.

Our second shutout in a row.

Tomorrow, we have game two with the A’s. Jeffery Springs (5-3, 3.97) vs. Chris Bassitt (4-3, 3.38).
