Jays 0 Rays 13
Just your typical Jays game against the Rays.
On offence, we had four hits. The Rays had 15 hits.
Chris Bassitt wasn’t good. It looked like he was having a hard time in the Southern Florida heat. He gave up 9 hits, 5 runs with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in 4.0 Innings.
Mason Fluharty wasn’t better, giving up 4 earned runs without getting an out.
Paxton Schultz threw 3 innings, giving up 4 unearned runs. He wasn’t exactly helped out by George Springer’s outfield defense. Nathan Lukes also made an error.
Michael Stefanic was our best pitcher of the night, pitching a clean eighth inning.
It shouldn’t have been a surprise, but I hoped for better after the Padres’ sweep. The Jays couldn’t have looked worse in this series. It is the type of series that gets people fired, which isn’t fair because the players lost this.
No Jays of the Day. I think we should all take one for sitting through that mess. Vlad had the high mark at .069 WPA.
Chris Bassitt gets the Other Award at -.196 WPA. No one else had the number because everyone shared the crappy play equally. I guess it is worth pointing out that Santander went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts and Springer went 0 for 3 and played terrible defence in right.
But then 6 of the guys in the starting order went 0 for.
Tomorrow, we have another afternoon game against the Rangers at 4:00 Eastern. Jacob deGrom (4-1, 2.33) vs. Kevin Gausman (4-4, 4.03). Oh, goody, another day game in the heat.
I shouldn’t read too much into this series, but the Jays didn’t seem prepared or interested in playing.
