Jays Lose To Orioles

Jays 4 Orioles 11

It was one of those days….

Chris Bassitt just didn’t have it. Maybe the heat. Maybe just one of those days. He went just 2.1, giving up seven hits, six earned, one walk, with four strikeouts. The Orioles took him deep twice.

And the bullpen wasn’t at its best either:

  • Mason Fluharty did well, 1.2 scoreless, two hits and one k.
  • Brendon Little got just one out, giving up four hits, four earned with a walk and a home run.
  • Tommy Nance got five outs without allowing a run.
  • Justin Bruihl pitched an inning, giving up a solo homer.
  • Braydon Fisher pitched a quick eighth.

Offensively….well, it didn’t matter. We scored three in the third to tie the game after the Orioles scored three in the bottom of the second. Nathan Lukes hit a solo homer, and Vladimir Guerrero had a two-run shot. But since the Orioles got three more in the bottom of the inning, it wasn’t enough.

We got one more in the fourth. Clement and Loperfido started the inning with singles. Tyler Heineman bunted them to second and third (down by three, and we bunt, I hate stupid baseball, and that is stupid baseball. Don’t play for one run early in the game or down by three). Clement scored on a Wagner sac fly.

We had 11 hits. Bo went 4 for 5. he had nine hits in a row, after yesterday’s 4 for 5. Unfortunately, he ground out to end the game and the streak. Vlad had 2 hits, including the home run.

Springer, Barger and Wagner had 0 fors.

Just to add to how bad of a game it was, Springer took a pitch off the earflap of his helmet in the ninth. I hope he’s ok, but it is hard to imagine how.

Yeah, they should have scored more, but it didn’t matter all that much.

Jays of the Day: Vlad (.227 WPA) and Bo (.101).

Other Award: Bassitt (-.502), Little (-.156), and Barger (-.123).

Tomorrow we have two games. One at 12:30 pm Eastern. And the other at 6:30 Eastern. Lauer starts the second game. We don’t know who will be starting the first game yet.
