So I didn’t see this coming:
The Jays sent Addison Barger down to Buffalo and called up Nathan Lukes.
Barger had just 1 hit in 18 at-bats. I hate decisions made on small samples. If you thought Addison was the right choice before those 18 at-bats, you should still think it is right now.
Lukes? He is hitting .284/.348/.432 with 3 home runs in 89 at-bats. He is a better defensive outfielder and likely would be a better choice in center field than George Springer. He’s a decent player, but he’s 29 now and hasn’t been a big prospect at any point. Add in that he is a lefty, and I’d rather have a right-handed outfield
Personally, I’d rather not send a good prospect down after a few at-bats because the next time he comes up, he’ll worry that if he has an 0 for 4, he’ll be back in Buffalo. The team has done that with several good prospects and watched them become non-prospects.
But such is life.
It seems like a sign that Kevin Keirmaier might not return as quickly as we thought. The team said he would be back on May 4th or 5th. If he was coming back tomorrow, you would think, they wouldn’t be making this move. But then, who knows if they plan more than one game at a time?
Tonight’s game is on Apple TV only. The people that rule MLB drive me crazy.
