While I was out riding my bike (the MS Ride is this weekend, I have to start training, if you would like to donate here is the link (I’ve raised $3761 so far)). The Jays made some roster moves:
- Bowden Francis has been put on the IL with ‘right-shoulder impingement’ retroactive to June 15. That last start, it seemed like he wasn’t 100%.
- Eric Swanson was DFAed. The team talked about him being a setup man, but he’s been terrible in his few appearances this year. He has a 15.19 ERA in 5.1 innings.
- Left-hander Justin Bruihl has been added to the 40-man and called up. Bruihl. He’s 27 (28 next week). He’s pitched in 76 MLB games for the Dodgers, Rockies and Pirates. He has a 4.62 ERA, with 25 walks, 51 strikeouts in 76 innings. In Buffalo, he has a 3.81 ERA in 28.1 innings with 12 walks and 36 strikeouts.
- And Paxton Schultz makes his return to the Jays. He has a 3.06 ERA, with 4 walks and 24 strikeouts, in 17.2 innings. I was grumpy when he was sent down on June 9th. He’s been excellent in his limited time with the Jays.
Today’s lineups. Barger moves to the two spot.
Eric Lauer will start Wednesday’s game. Kevin Gausman on Thursday. Friday’s a bullpen day with Spencer Turnbull being the ‘bulk guy’.
There are some injury updates:
- Yimi Garcia threw a bullpen session. He’s to throw ‘live’ BP Thurday.
- Alek Manoah threw BP, 21 pitches, hit 94 mph.
- Daulton Varsho will ‘run the bases’ Thursday or Friday.
- Anthony Santander is throwing the ball, but not hitting the ball (so just like before he went on the IL).
- Nick Sandlin will make a rehab appearance tonight for the Bisons.
The big news in baseball is the Rafael Devers trade, with the Red Sox getting a box of Cracker Jacks in return (Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, Jamees Tibbs, and Jose Bello).
The Red Sox really wanted to get rid of Devers. The Jays inquired about him, but I would bet the Red Sox wouldn’t trade him inside the division.
