Twins 3 Blue Jays 5

My son and I had a morning of playing pokemon, since it is community day today, and then watched much of the game in a bar, so the recap will be a little spotty today.

But everything that was important happened in the bottom of the first.

The Jays scored five in the inning:

  • After a George Springer strikeout, Marcus Semien doubled.
  • Vlad drove him home with a single, RBI #105 for Vlad.
  • Bo Bichette hit his 26th home run of the season, bringing him to 97 RBI.
  • Singles from Teoscar Hernandez, Corey Dickerson and Lourdes Gurriel brought in one more.
  • And Breyvic Valeria singled to make it 5-0.

Hit-around first innings are fun.

That was all the scoring we needed.

Jose Berrios had a pretty easy time with his old team. He went 6.2, allowing just 4 hits, 3 earned, 1 walk with 6 strikeouts.

He had a little trouble in the fourth, hitting Josh Donaldson with a pitch (The way Josh hit this series, pushing him back from the plate wasn’t a bad idea, but the pitch, on the inside of his left arm, looked painful. Doubles from Miguel Sano aand Nick Gordon brought in the two runs. Then Jose gave up a home run to someone named Ben Rortvedt, with two outs in the seventh and that was the end of his day.

Trevor Richards got the last out of the inning and pitched a quick eight, getting 3 strikeouts. And Jordan Romano pitched a scoreless ninth (around a hit batter) to get his 19th save ofr the season.

The Jays outhit the Twins 11-4. Vlad had 3 hits. Semien and Gurriel had 2 each and Bo had the home run.

Springer (on his birthday), and Danny Jansen had 0 fors.

Jays of the Day are Berrios (.133 WPA), Richards (.096), Bo (.097), Vlad (.083), and Romano (.082).

No one had the Suckage number. The low mark was Springer at -.056.

Tomorrow we start a series in the lovely Tropicana Field, which the Rays and, literally, dozens of their fans. Shane Baz makes his first MLB start against Bob Rae.
