Here is a name from the past that I didn’t think we’d have in the organization again: Aaron Sanchez has signed a minor-league deal with the Jays, according to Jamie Campbell. He was a favourite of mine.
The Jays drafted him in the first round of the 2010 draft. He pitched six seasons with the Jays from 2014 to 2019. As a Jay, he had a 32-33 record and a 3.96 ERA in 174 games and 113 starts. Back in 2016, he had the best ERA in the AL at 3.00.
Since then, he’s been with the Astros, Giants, Nationals, Twins, and the Diamondbacks system. Last year, he pitched in Triple-A with the Twins and Diamondbacks, making 22 appearances and 20 starts with a 5.54 ERA. In 89.1 innings, he had 63 walks and 68 strikeouts (which was him in a nutshell: too many walks, not enough strikeouts).
We spent most of our time arguing if he should be a starter or a reliever.
There is nothing to lose in giving him a chance in Buffalo. We can use anyone who can throw a ball.
Good luck Aaron.
