Red Sox 6 Blue Jays 6 7 (10 innings)
Wednesday is bowling night (don’t judge me), I leave the house, it is 6-0 and I’m not unhappy to be leaving. I get to bowling and it is 6-6. Maybe I’m the problem.
Yariel Rodriguez had a tough first inning, giving up a double, a home run, and a couple of walks. He had a little trouble with the strike zone, being fair, so did the plate umpire. He only pitched one inning. There was also a weird balk when Alejandro Kirk tried to stop him from throwing, but Rodriguez didn’t see it until he started his delivery.
Eric Lauer came in for the second and gave up a couple more runs in the second, but then he threw three shutout innings. He looked pretty good, so I’m okay with him getting another start.
Chad Green gave up two runs of his own in the top of the sixth, giving up a Carlos Narvaez home run.
Yimi Garcia and Brendon pitched a scoreless inning each, getting us to extras.
The Jays did nothing on offense until two out in the sixth. George Springer walked, Daulton Varsho and Kirk homered. 6-3 and, well, it was an effort.
And we got three more in the seventh. With one out Ernie Clement singled. And out later, Vlad singled, and then Anthony Santander homered.
This homering stuff is good, we should do it more.
10th:
Jeff Hoffman came in with the runner on second and got Alex Bergman to strikeout, Trevor Story to ground out, and Wilyer Abreu to strikeout,
In the Jays’ half, with Vlad on second. Santander lined out to center, Vlad tagged up but the throw hit him so he was safe (it would have been close). Red Sox intentionally walked Springer and Varsho. Kirk up. He went to 2-1 and lined one to left.
JAYS WIN!
Jays of the Day: Hoffman (.439 WPA), Little (.104), Santander (.352) and Kirk (.124).
Other Award: Rodriguez (-.159), Gimenez (-.100) and Vlad (-.100, though maybe we can give him a pass for making it to third on that fly ball).
We had 10 hits (haven’t done that for a while and three home runs (I don’t think we’ve done that this year). Bo, Varsho, Kirk, and Clement had two each. Vlad and Santander each had one.
