The Giants weren’t happy with the strike zone yesterday, and deservedly so.
Alejandro Kirk is an excellent framer, but this is beyond the norm of what a good framer should be getting away with.
I mean, I’ll take it and all, but we shouldn’t see games like this:
Chad’s Umpire Scorecard page shows that he’s not good:
Most umpires fall in that little shaded area. Chad misses it by a lot or is at the very edge of it. For most of his career, he’s been bad.
On Accuracy, he’s ninth worst in the league this year (out of 91 total), behind guys like Andy Fletcher, Laz Diaz, Bruce Dreckman and CB Bucknor, plus four games who haven’t called many games. Anyone worse than him are guys that should have been fired long ago (or guys who were called up for a game here and there).
It looks like Chad is one of the umpires most easily swayed by a good framer.
The Jays have signed 18 of 20 draft picks, plus eight undrafted players. They haven’t signed the number two pick and the twentieth.

Nice to meet our first-round pick.

The Phillies signed David Robertson. He’s getting $6.22 million for the rest of the season. He’s 40 and pitched for the Rangers last year, with a 3.00 ERA in 72 innings. He’s one o those guys that I’d wondered if the Jays had talked to.
