Report: Mike Yastrzemski signs two-year, $23 million deal with the Atlanta Braves

December 12, 2025 by Blue Jays Nation

Yaz is heading to Atlanta.

FanSided’s Robert Murray reported last night that outfielder Mike Yastrzemski has signed a two-year deal with the Atlanta Braves worth $23 million, with ESPN’s Jeff Passan confirming the terms and financials shortly after. The Braves later confirmed the signing, with the organization also having a club option on Yastrzemski for the 2028 season worth $7 million. His buyout is $4 million.

Originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2013, Yastrzemski spent seven years in the Bay Area before he was traded to the Kansas City Royals at the 2025 trade deadline. Across 790 games with the Giants, Yastrzemski posted a .238/.323/.444 slash line with 148 doubles, 114 home runs, and 346 RBIs with a .768 OPS. Last season, he slotted right around his career numbers, posting a .233/.333/.403 slash line between both clubs.

He saw a considerable power increase once he joined the Royals, posting a .500 SLG down the stretch with a .839 OPS, and chipped in nine home runs across 50 games, which eclipsed his eight homers with the Giants but in 46 fewer games.

A right-fielder by trade, Yastrzemski owns a .991 fielding percentage and +37 DRS across 803 games. The Maryland product can also play the other outfield positions, and boasts a +8 DRS in centre field for his career, and will likely need to find a new outfield spot with Ronald Acuna Jr. in right field for the Braves.

Yastrzemski is a late bloomer to the big leagues, and the 35-year-old will be tied to a Braves organization that missed out on the postseason in 2025. As mentioned earlier, Yastrzemski will likely be slotting into left field or centre field and splitting time with Jurickson Profar and Michael Harris II, with Acuna Jr. firmly entrenched in right field. Yastrzemski might also get some reps in the DH spot when Sean Murphy or Drake Baldwin are catching, and they choose to put the other on the bench, but it will likely be a platoon of sorts in that spot as well.

The Braves designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment to make room for Yastrzemski on the 40-man roster.
