Report: Toronto Blue Jays to promote top prospect Trey Yesavage

September 14, 2025 by Blue Jays Nation

According to Ben Nicholson-Smith and Shi Davidi, the Toronto Blue Jays are set to promote 2024 first-round pick Trey Yesavage to the big leagues. Yesavage is supposed to land in Toronto on Sunday and then be activated by Monday at the latest when the Tampa Bay Rays enter the Rogers Centre. He was slated to pitch tomorrow for the Bisons before this recent news.

Yesavage has skyrocketed through the Blue Jays’ farm system this year. He didn’t play affiliated ball following his draft year and began the 2025 season in Single-A Dunedin, where he pitched 33 1/3 innings through seven starts before being moved to High-A Vancouver on May 20th. Following four starts there, the Jays moved him to Double-A New Hampshire, where he appeared in eight games (seven starts) before getting the call to Triple-A Buffalo on August 12th.

Since joining the Bisons, Yesavage has worked as both a starter and a reliever, making six appearances (four starts) and pitching to a 3.63 ERA, 1.154 WHIP, and a 14.7 K/9 through 17 1/3 innings. In his last outing on September 10th, he pitched three clean innings while striking out four batters.

Possible he’s not active until Monday but he’s expected to join the team in Toronto Sunday. John Schneider set to address media tomorrow morning.

While his command has been shaky at times (10.5% walk rate), Yesavage dominates on the mound with his strikeout-worthy arsenal, ranking first in K% (41.1) amongst all minor league pitchers with a minimum of 90 innings. This is a figure ahead of Jonah Tong (Mets) and Payton Tolle (Red Sox), who were recently promoted to the big leagues. Through four levels, Yesavage has held opponents to a .156 average and a .257 BABIP while also producing a 0.97 WHIP, 14.69 K/9, a 0.7 HR/9, and a 30.6% K-BB ratio.

Per Nicholson-Smith and Davidi, manager John Schneider will address the media before tomorrow’s game, which is a big deal considering the Jays skipper normally does not hold media availability pregame on Sundays for the beat journalists. It’s not currently known what role the right-hander will take on the roster at this time, but for the Blue Jays to bring him North of the border, he will need a spot on both the 40-man and active roster.

Looking at the current roster, the likelihood of Yesavage slotting into the bullpen to finish out the September campaign is high, considering his high strikeout numbers and that he is already encroaching 100 innings on the year, which is already a career high for the 22-year-old when looking back to his college days.

It has been an impressive campaign for Trey Yesavage, which will now see him finish his first pro season in the big leagues.
