We have a 3:00 Eastern game today, hopefully to win the three-game series. It would be better if we were going for a sweep but such is life.
It was good to see Kirk back in the lineup after missing a game with the effects of taking a bat to the head. He’s on a hot streak, hitting .429/.444/.543 in his last nine games, with only two strikeouts.
Sportsnet has a story on him:
For some two minutes, the Toronto Blue Jays catcher tried to gather himself from the blow to his temple, which he described as the worst he’s ever taken on the field. He finished the inning, doubled and scored in the fourth and then left the game right after when he didn’t feel right in the dugout. “That part of the head is dangerous,” he said. “I get a lot of foul balls off my mask. I felt that one pretty good.”
Sportsnet also has a story on who the Jays’ emergency catcher would be: Ernie Clement. Or Michael Stefanic. I’d prefer the latter.
Jeff Blair writes about the Pete Rose reinstatement. Never mind the betting, which broke baseball’s number one rule, the statutory rape charges should keep him out of the Hall. But then the Orange Man likes underage girls too.
I see people say, ‘You can’t tell the story of baseball without Rose.’ But then, the Hall of Fame isn’t for telling the story of baseball. The museum at the Hall does tell the story, and Rose is in that. The Hall of Fame is an honour, and if you screw up as bad as Rose, you don’t deserve the honour.
Today’s lineup. Lukes and Straw in, Clase out.
