That’s a wrap on the month of July as the dog days of summer quickly approach.
We’re now 68 days away from puck drop on the Maple Leafs’ 2025-26 regular season, and honestly, it can’t come soon enough.
Meantime, of the 11 players to file for salary arbitration this month, Nick Robertson’s the lone player still scheduled for a hearing. It will go down on Sunday. As per various insiders on Friday, the Leafs are asking for $1.2 million, Robertson’s camp would like $2.25M. Yeah, the arbitrator will probably rule somewhere in the middle. Any way you slice it, it’s still fair to wonder if Robertson’s played his last game as a Maple Leaf. Moving forward, the price tag on this contract could be important as the two parties discuss his future, and what that will look like.
After that, we got into some hot takes sourced from social media. There were a lot of good ones. Firstly, we discussed a lot of player props like Matthews hitting 70 goals, Nylander scoring 50 goals for the first time in his career, and the Leafs possessing four different 40 goal scorers. One of the hottest takes we received was someone suggesting that Matias Maccelli hits 80 points riding shotgun with Matthews. That’s a spicy meatball! From a team hot take perspective, lots of people are predicting a second straight Atlantic Division crown and/or a Presidents’ Trophy. Lastly, there was a prediction that Max Domi would tally 60+ points. It will be fascinating to see where he plays. If it’s on the top line, that could very well come to fruition.
Furthermore, we offered up some of our hot takes. They sure were red-hot:
- Auston Matthews will record more points than Mitch Marner
- Bobby McMann will score 25+ goals
- The Leafs will play in a Conference Final game for the first time since 2002
We’ll be back on Tuesday at 11 AM ET for another summer edition of Leafs Morning Take.
