What could possibly go wrong on a Wednesday night in Columbus?
After a three-day break, the Leafs will return to game action tonight when they visit the Blue Jackets, a team that’s had their number in recent memory.
But honestly, it hasn’t been pretty.
We kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by giving our initial thoughts on the game. Neither of us feel a certain way about the team. At this point, they just need to go out there and show us something. Fortunately, after a three-game absence, Matthew Knies is set to return, so that’s good.
After that, we promoted The Nation Network’s newest podcast/YouTube show: “OFF THE ROSTER.” Starting Monday, Cabbie, Lindsay Dunn, and Dan Riccio will offer up a daily Toronto sports show on The Nation Network YouTube channel. Riccio will join us on the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take to tee things up.
Meantime in Columbus, the Leafs need a win badly. They’ve dropped seven of their past eight outings (1-5-2). On top of that, the Jackets – as mentioned – have owned them. They’ve won both games this season and five of the past six meetings overall. The Leafs, who are 1-6-0 away from Scotiabank Arena, need to find a way to get the job done.
Following that preview, we played our interview with future MLB Hall of Famer Max Scherzer. A few weeks removed from going to Game 7 of the World Series with the Blue Jays, the 41-year-old pulled back the curtain on his time in Toronto. He talked about his experience —from living in the city to the media pressure. HE LOVED IT. Additionally, he shed some light on his free agent status, and if he feels like he has some unfinished business in Toronto. Over and above all that, he hit on accountability, leadership, character, and competitiveness. Unsurprisingly, it was easy to loop in a Leafs angle on some of these questions. CAN’T MISS INTERVIEW. CHECK IT OUT.
Whether they win or lose in Columbus, the Leafs will be on the outside looking in when it comes to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. What does that mean? Well, aside from recapping Leafs/Jackets, John Shannon will join us to talk big picture, plus weigh in on Toronto’s turbulent start.
