The Amazon Prime: ‘All or Nothing’ documentary about the Toronto Maple Leafs’ COVID-shortened 2021 season was one of the best and worst things to come out in recent years. For people who love the Leafs, it was a unique look into the day-to-day of a Toronto Maple Leafs season with the painful caveat that they’d eventually have to re-live the team’s embarrassing first-round series choke to the Montreal Canadiens. For people who hate the Leafs, it was like Christmas Day.
There was a report that came out near the end of November from Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, who said that there was apparently a scene involving William Nylander that the Leafs, the NHLPA, and Nylander’s agent had to fight to have taken out. This was one of our top stories of 2025, and below is an excerpt from the article covering what Friedman said.
“In the first Amazon show they did, the ‘All or Nothing’, there was a scene in there that the Leafs and the NHLPA and his agent all fought to have taken out, and it wasn’t supposed to happen. Like, everybody was supposed to be like, ‘It’s there, you have to say yes.’ But the Leafs, the players’ association, and the agent, it was an argument between Keefe and Nylander, and those three felt strongly it made Nylander look bad,” Friedman reported. “And initially, Amazon fought it. They’re like, ‘Nope.’ But (the three groups) put up such a stink that eventually they won their way. So this is a marriage, and like I said, I know Nylander drives some people crazy, but he’s been good for them, and they’ve been good for him.”
The scene in question is one that will never see the light of day, which is unfortunate for fans. Who knows what the scene involved and who was in the right and wrong? Either way, it was clearly shaped in a way that Nylander’s camp felt was not representative of his relationship with former head coach Sheldon Keefe. It’s too bad that we’ll never know.
