After his playing career ended in 2021, JJ Redick immediately went to work in media at ESPN.
Redick has never coached before, but this morning, Bleacher Report cited Sportsnet’s Michael Grange in a tweet saying the Toronto Raptors recently “looked into the possibility” of hiring Redick for their head coaching vacancy.

The full report from Grange regarding Redick is actually from a new article focused on Becky Hammon’s potential candidacy for the Raptors’ opening.
“Then there are some wild cards, with former Raptors head coach Dwane Casey thought to have registered interest and one source suggesting that Toronto has looked into the possibility of veteran NBA sharpshooter, turned podcaster, turned broadcaster JJ Reddick [sic] — who has spoken openly about the possibility of getting into coaching — as being head coach material,” Grange wrote.
The Raptors coaching search has weeks left to run and some surprising names have surfaced — JJ Reddick anyone? — but with the WNBA in Toronto this week it’s timely to look at Becky Hammon as a candidate: https://t.co/jCqDRz9YHN

Redick played in the NBA for six different franchises from 2006-21. In addition to his work on ESPN, he also co-hosts The Old Man and the Three podcast with Tommy Alter.
Toronto is looking for a replacement for Nick Nurse, who was let go by the team last month after five seasons that included three playoff appearances and an NBA title in 2018-19.
