The Toronto Raptors are on the lookout for frontcourt depth. With Jakob Poeltl dealing with recurring back issues, Toronto is looking at the trade market for help at the center position.
The Raptors are one of a handful of suitors for Anthony Davis of the Dallas Mavericks. The challenge for Toronto in trade for Davis is that Dallas is unlikely to want to take back long-term contracts in a deal. That could lead to multi-team trade being necessary, or the Raptors adding draft capital.
Toronto has also shown interest in trading for Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings. Sabonis is currently out with a knee injury, but he’s expected to return to the lineup sometime around the All-Star break.
The Raptors would need to come up with significant outgoing salary to match the incoming salary of either Davis or Sabonis. Davis makes $54.1 million this season, while Sabonis is on the books for $42.3 million.
Davis is also known to want an extension this offseason, if he’s traded. He’s got one season left under contract after this year at $58.5 million, with a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28. Sabonis has two seasons left on his deal after this one, for a total of $94 million, with no options.
