The Toronto Raptors decided to retain Bobby Webster as their lead basketball executive to replace Masai Ujiri rather than hiring an external candidate above him as president. Webster will be on a less expensive contract than Ujiri’s $15 million base annual salary. Webster certainly has his own opinions on building out the roster, but he and Ujiri worked in tandem and shared some of the same visions.
Sources tell TSN that some of the external candidates who interviewed for the president position were critical of recent roster decisions made by Ujiri and the front office. The Brandon Ingram trade in February was described by one candidate as a “desperate Hail Mary.”
The Raptors acquired Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans for Bruce Brown Jr., Kelly Olynyk, Indiana’s top-4 protected pick in 2026 and a 2031 second round pick. Toronto subsequently signed Ingram to a three-year, $120 million extension.
The Raptors have Ingram, Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett and Jakob Poeltl all under long-term contracts.
