Toronto Raptors rookie Scottie Barnes suffered a sprained left ankle in his team’s Game 1 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. X-rays were negative and Barnes will have an MRI on Sunday to determine the extent of the injury.
Barnes was hurt in the fourth quarter of his debut playoff game. The Rookie of the Year candidate had 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, nearly recording the Raptors first playoff triple-double.
The wing was injured while defending the lane against Joel Embiid. Barnes fell and rolled his ankle, while having his left foot stepped on by Embiid. Postgame, Nick Nurse didn’t call the play dirty, but was critical of the officials for allowing Embiid to get away with questionable play.
Toronto also lost forward Thaddeus Young to a sprained left thumb during the game. His x-rays were also negative and Young will also have an MRI on Sunday.
