FT: Toronto FC 1-2 New England Revolution
90’—Seven minutes of added time. So, you’re telling me there’s a chance!?
82’—Uhhh referee just awarded NER a penalty for Eriq Zavaleta holding in the box. And Gustavo Bou steps up to the spot and slots home. That was questionable…
80’—GOOOAAALLLL!! JONATHAN OSORIO! 1-1.
At least this goal was pretty pic.twitter.com/jPFhyLOpn0

76’—Pinging a ball into your striker when he’s isolated and 1v4 — especially when your striker is Patrick Mullins — is not a good play. Just a PSA.
67’—Michael Bradley enters the game for Priso. He looks to be in a lot of pain as he’s assisted off the pitch.
66’—Ralph Priso with the goal line clearance! A poor giveaway from Achara leads to a swift counter attack from New England, but Priso tracks back to disrupt the initial shot, and then — while injured — makes a save on the goal line. As Eric G points out, all of that could have been avoided…
Absolutely despise this late flag. Ralph gets injured becuase they don’t blow the play dead for a clear offside.

59’—Best chance of the game for Toronto FC falls to Mark Delgado in the box, but his first time finish is straight at Matt Turner. Golden opportunity for the Reds there to level this match.
What a move… keep pushing, lads! pic.twitter.com/eAnrumn7kS

51’—Thrilling end-to-end stuff here at BMO Field to begin the second half. I don’t think Bruce Arena will be enjoying this too much. Jonathan Osorio has his shot blocked at the top of NER’s box, appeals for a hand ball, but once again nothing from the referee.
49’—I do not take pleasure in writing this, but Alex Bono just dribbled past a New England Revolution player at the top of his box. Fans were impressed.
46’—The Reds are back out for the second half! Do they have some magic left in ‘em? No subs from Perez out of the break.
HT: Toronto FC 0-1 New England Revolution
40’—40 minutes in, and honestly, TFC have been hands down the better side.
30’—Screams for a hand ball from Toronto FC players, but to no avail. Achara, with a heads up decision to play on, but his shot hits the post! TFC have responded really well.
25’—Good chance for TFC as some great interplay between Soteldo and Pozuelo frees up Mark Delgado down the left-hand side, and his cross evades everyone and drifts just wide of the far post.
20’—GOAL! Tajon Buchanan gets up and heads home in his first match at BMO Field. Bitter sweet, but once again, TFC trail early. It’s been a solid 20 minutes for the Reds before that spectacular moment from Buchanan.
Tajon Buchanan’s first goal at BMO did not come in a Canada shirt
What is Kemar Lawrence doing here though? Ball watching. pic.twitter.com/hK83vJmRmV

9’—Great chance for TFC as the ball falls to Achara, but his finish is a bit too weak. He was offside though, so perhaps he knew that? Yeah, let’s go with that.
8’–Ralph Priso has been very impressive so far, doing well to clean up behind TFC’s attack. He’s made a couple of early important interceptions.
1’—KICKOFF! Come on you Reds!!!
8:04 pm ET—National anthems are in the books. I have to say… this is easily the busiest I’ve seen BMO prior to kickoff. Hopefully the Reds respond accordingly tonight!
7:57 pm ET—That felt so good to type. Olympic Gold Medalist.
A standing ovation at BMO Field for Olympic Gold Medalist Ashley Lawrence, who is honoured prior to tonight’s match

7:54 pm ET—I wasn’t kidding when I said it was a gorgeous evening along the Lakeshore.

7:49 pm ET—Fans at BMO Field will get their first taste of Canadian international Tajon Buchanan. His trajectory has been sky-high, and he’ll be motivated to play in front of a lot of family and friends this afternoon. Buchanan is lining up as the No. 10 for NER.
7:27 pm ET—No Jozy Altidore for TFC tonight. Jozy felt some discomfort in his leg in training yesterday. Michael Bradley starts on the bench. Javier Perez is a savage — and I am here for it.
7:13 pm ET—Assuming a lot of you will be at the game tonight! If you’re at the game, I’d love to hear from you about your experience! Drop some insight in our comment thread below! And if you’re not at the game, you know where the vibes are at tonight! Appreciate everyone for tuning in and following along.
6:35 pm ET—Starting this one early today! An absolutely gorgeous day along the Lakeshore as Toronto FC play host to New England Revolution, a side they got the better of seven games ago — Javier Perez’s first match in charge of the club. Since that day, the Revs are unbeaten, winning five out of six games over that span. TFC, meanwhile, have yet to lose since returning home to BMO Field, so we’re in for a draw…right? Another draw!? Let’s hope not, and TFC have a rabbit in their hat and can pull off an upset and inch closer towards the playoffs! Positive vibes only tonight! Come on you Reds! Kickoff is 8 pm ET!

Despite losing just one of their last seven MLS games, Toronto FC are in dire need of three points as they approach the business end of the season. The Reds came from 2-0 down to salvage a point against NYCFC in their last match, but with over half of the campaign now in the books, the wins need to come sooner rather than later.
Up next for Javier Perez and co is a visit from the current Eastern Conference leaders, the New England Revolution. Bruce Arena’s men sit 10 points clear at the top with five wins and a draw in their last six. The last team to beat them you ask? Toronto FC.
Kickoff for this clash is set for 8:00 pm EST at BMO Field, with the game available to watch live on TSN.
With two wins, four draws and one defeat in their last seven, TFC have dropped 11 points to fall back to the bottom of the East. The Reds now have the worst record in all of MLS, but sit just nine points off of the playoff spots with 16 games left to play.
Toronto’s fighting spirit was ignited against NYCFC, and following a dogged second half performance last weekend, a tenacious and persistent 90 minutes will be much needed against the Revolution.
As for TFC’s upcoming guests, goals from Matt Polster and Gustavo Bou secured a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union in their latest encounter. The Revolution has not lost on the road since June 27th against FC Dallas, while Toronto remains undefeated at BMO Field since returning to Canada just under a month ago.
In terms of TFC’s team news, Ayo Akinola remains a long term absentee with a torn ACL. Chris Mavinga and Dom Dwyer are both questionable, while Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty has been ruled out due to an undisclosed issue. Auro Jr, who has not featured since the 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls on July 21st, was an unused substitute last weekend and could be in line for a return against New England.
Despite training alone this week, Alejandro Pozuelo is indeed expected to play barring a setback.
For the Revolution, Carles Gil (muscle tissue) and Luis Caicedo (lower body) are both unavailable, while Jon Bell is questionable.
On the goalscoring front, Akinola and Jonathan Osorio remain TFC’s joint-top scorers with three each, but the Reds have seen 16 different members of their squad get on the scoresheet in MLS.
Bou is not only the top scorer for New England, but also for the entire league. The Argentine has bagged 11 strikes and three assists so far this season and has firmly established himself as one of MLS’s key danger men. 11 different players have found the back of the net for the Revolution, including Canadian men’s international, Tajon Buchannan.
Saturday’s clash will be the 35th meeting in history between Toronto and New England. TFC’s 3-2 win over the Revolution in early July was their 10th overall, but the Reds still sit three behind New England’s total win tally. Sebastian Giovinco is the matchup’s all-time top scorer with seven, while Gil is the top scoring player currently signed to either club with three.
Another win over New England would be the perfect catalyst for TFC to truly to kick on and move towards the top seven, and with an inspiring performance against NYCFC to piggyback off of, the Reds will look to prove their critics wrong and firmly begin their playoff push in the second half of the 2021 MLS campaign.
